iPhone 11 Pro Photos with Greenish Dots and Squiggles in Low Light Conditions

Greetings! I purchased an iPhone 11 Pro on launch day and am having trouble with photos in low light conditions.

The problem:

Photos taken in low light conditions (indoors or outdoors) have greenish dots and squiggles on them. The greenish dots and squiggles are visible on the screen prior to taking the shot, and are also visible in the image once the picture is taken.

Examples:

I've attached three recent examples. The condition has been present since receiving the phone on launch day.

Steps Taken:

I contacted Apple Support, described the conditions, and provided examples of the issue. I was told by the Apple Support Advisor that what I'm experiencing is totally normal.

I am struggling with this determination because no iPhone I've ever had does this. In a side-by-side comparison under the exact same conditions using my work iPhone 7 and my wife's iPhone 8, the older phones do not produce this effect.

Additional Facts:

(1) There is no plastic film or cover over the lenses;

(2) The issue occurs regardless of whether Live photos is enabled; and

(3) The issue is still present even if the screen is pressed to focus the image.

Any help the Community might have would be sincerely appreciated! I'm reading the rave reviews of this camera online, looking at the images produced published in the media and by others with the device, and am left feeling that there is something wrong with my particular phone.

Thank you!

(In the last image, the greenish dot is located on the blue pillow)

Ditto, I just purchased an iPhone 11 pro and I am experiencing the exact same problems. The green or white dot/shape appears in bright light. I have not noticed this in low light. I have taken 100's of sunset pictures over the years with my iPhone's and I am experiencing the exact same problems. Staff at genius bar(tech person, manager, and photo specialist(5 year experience)) told me the exact same thing, stating this is normal for cameras. I have 26+ years of photo experience. I told them I disagree as with all my iPhone's and other digital cameras this has never happened before. I was really disappointed by staffs explanation and their instance this is normal. I am really disappointed at this point with my recent purchase $1200.00 plus dollars plus a few accessories. My reason for trading in my 6SPlus was specifically for the camera upgrades and features. I asked about my options: they quickly stated I could not get a refund at this point ( I just purchased this phone the first week of October, today is November 1 , really!?!); they proposed to replace my camera as first step; If that doesn't work perhaps replace phone; in the mean time I have been at genius bar for 1.5 hours. The sales person took two cameras 11pro's outside and recreated the same dot on both phones. The sales person in the store recreated the dot taking a picture of his hand. From my perspective there is definitely something wrong with the product? I would like apple to own the issue, stand behind their product, provide support, and remedy this problem, including a possible refund of product. I have always been a fan of I phone. Right now, as is, i am very disappointed with the I Phone 11pro and how my issue was handled. I have an appointment on Monday 11/4/2019.

I have the same problem as yours. I just tried the camera last night and it’s totally not just a flare. I have it checked by machines service center and their technician just confirmed that it is a display/camera anomaly. My unit is subject for replacement now. It’s just disappointing though, because they will not do a refund nor make a full replacement even if the unit is already faulty when I bought it.

I talked with apple in the store and customer support online today. Spent a total of 7 + hours over the last two days dealing with this trying to get answers and possible solutions. I tested out all their new phones and I pads in the store. They all create this green blue image(s), Except the I-pad 11 pro. This was interesting as they appear to be the same lenses. For my iPhone 11 pro I found with one light source there is one anomaly, with 3 there are 3, 5 light sources there are 5, and so on. I also found and reported to apple that the iPad 11 pro does not seem to cause this anomaly. Any ways frustrated at the time its taking and I'm disappointed in the product. Apple support was great they listened and are trying to support me. I'm hoping that apple will come through as I really don't want to leave apple. I' crossing me fingers.......

I asked apple for a full replacement given that I have noticed the issue within 8 hrs of using my phone and it's still in the process of being replaced. Apple has been very accommodating to my request and concerns, though its quite alarming that iphone 11 pro is not as promising as it should be as it's their top of the line iphone camera as of yet. I m actually wondering whether apple will have to recall their product or just ignore these cases.

Hi @Rahulay,

Yes it appears so, I was able to reproduce the issue on the iPhone 11 pro against a bright light source. Three green dots that corresponded to the lights. I then tried with my iPhone 7 same issue though not as bright, Samsung S10, same issue except this time the three dots were white, and not as noticeable as with the iPhone 11 Pro.

I didn't see the artefacts with my iPad (2017 model) though its camera is not the best.

Personal preference as to whether the issue is enough to warrant replacing / returning the handset.
