OS Catalina and iphoto
I downloaded Catalina and now find my iPhoto does not work any more! How can I get it to work? DESPERATE!

What have you tried? Have you migrated the iPhoto Library to Photos? Has that failed in some way?

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point at your iPhoto Library. It will do the rest.

How to retrieve all my iphoto albums on Catalina OS ?
I do not have an iPhoto library on it. only photo.
have loaded Catalina today and wished i hadn't. gone is my accesss to photos, lost my mail box, unable to use word and excel. what to do to fix these problems?
This all worked for me, it appeared my pics transferred. But now every time I try to open Photos, it wants to update the library, which takes forever! Thoughts?
Really cannot see why everyone is complaining about losing iPhoto - I was an avid fan but now with Catalina I have merged everything to Photo and cannot see the difference - so all good.
People should just get on with it and embrace change....
There are SO MANY on line programs yiu can upload your photos and create a photo book. You can put them on a memory card and go to dept store where u print your pics and do it there! Don't understand your problem!
no, I never used it, I made a book by going on line and uploading pics. My friends go to shop where you can print pics or create book - start agian - so copy all your photos to stick and take it to a shop or online.
Too late complaining - move forward
I'm using an iMac, upgraded to Catalina and my iphoto is no able to open. Totally panicked, found a clue on internet search, there is PHOTOS emoji , looks like a rainbow colored flower, my photos are there now but not nearly as easy for me to use as iPhoto.
I just installed Catalina and now:
- iPhotos no longer works, so I need to use the app Photo. That's OK, but...
- I managed to import my iPhoto library into Photo after a bit of trying.
- The photos loaded in and everything seemed OK, but..
- But after a reboot, the photos are no longer in Photo.
- I waited an hour for someone from their "Creative Media" department to help me then gave up.
- It appears that many of you have the same problem.
- About 80% of my folder icons do not appear.
- The best their tech support could offer is for me to either manually replace the icon using the Get Info dialog and pasting in the proper icon for each of the folders or else to manually move the contents of all the now "corrupted" folders into new folders.
- I must have hundreds of folders that don't have the folder icon associated with them.
Did you try pressing option on your keyboard, while selecting photos app ? hold it, until a small window opens.. A user suggested it to me, and it worked, i found all my albums, then merged them into photos
I did what was suggested by Phil above, which is hold down the Option Key and Click on Photos. It will give you a choice of data bases to open, select the iPhoto library. It will take a couple of hours to reorganize and update but it works and you will get a screen under photos that's shows "My Albums" and iPhoto events is listed there nd it is exactly like the original iPhoto.
So thanks to Phil as my problems with not having iPhoto as an application has been resolved.
