Catalina: Cannot drag/drop files onto scripts in the sidebar

After spending an hour+ on the phone with Apple Support they concluded Catalina is not compatible with Drop Box. So they had me delete Drop Box from my login items and it fixed the issue perfectly.

Hi, not sure if you're suffering the same problem I had, but when I updated to Catalina, I could not grab a folder/file on the Finder and drop it into another folder or app. Instead of dragging it, I would open a preview of the folder/file.

I found my solution by going to System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click. The first option reads "Look up & data detectors". Immediately below this text, there's a dropdown with the options "Force Click with one finger" and "Tap with three fingers". Select the "Tap with three fingers" options and try dragging/dropping.

If you make the scripts into an app with Script Editor and put them in the Dock they will work.

You know that the drag/drop scripts work on the Desktop, so use them there. Things change with Apple, including the Finder, and it is unlikely anyone outside of the macOS product team knows what they may have done to change your previous functionality.

Having the same problem. Amazing how much I use this feature in the course of my business day. I can't find any fix for it on any searches online. Its definitely a problem that started the moment I upgraded to Catalina. Any help is appreciated.

When I upgraded to Mac Catalina, I too, cannot drag/drop files, jpgs, pngs, etc., to any existing folder on my Desktop. I don't see why this evidently common functionality should be removed, when it was available in the previous OS. A fix or workaround would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I also use Dropbox and had this same problem.

Solution: If you right-click on the file you want to drag and drop, a menu opens up and one of the options is "Move to Dropbox." Click on that.

It's not as simple as dragging and dropping, since I then have to move it into the specific Dropbox folder, but at least I can get a file into Dropbox without opening it and choosing a new location.

FFS guys, if you post some techno-babble propellerhead statement, at least do the rest of us non-propellor-hat-wearing peeps a favour and explain wtf you're on about. Not everybody is a Mac technician you know.

To implement the "Three Finger" fix proposed as a solution, it was already selected in my "Preferences" so, the fixing was not fixing anything. You must go to Preferences>Accessibility>Pointer Control>Trackpad Options>Enable dragging and select "Three finger drag"

I am set for 'three finger' and 'enable dragging'. I shut down the computer, restarted etc. When I click on a file to drag I can drag it, but the recipient window does not allow the file to drop: we have drag but no drop. I just get a 'no way' sign when its over the recipient window. Might I have some security thing enabled? I have looked there but cannot see it.

I have no idea what making the scripts into an app means I am sorry to say.

Is this a fundamental problem with Catalina? it seems a number of people have struggled with this and I cannot see what it is thats worked for them as a fix. Thankyou.

This is really bad. I clipped a picture to the desktop. I cannot transfer to the folder I now want it to go. I do not have dropbox (whatever that is). iMac Catalina 10.15.2
