Flash drive doesn't fit into the usb-c to usb adapter???

Just bought the USB-C to USB adapter for my new MacBook air3 and none of my flash drives fit into the USB port. Did I buy the wrong accessory?

It is hard to say without knowing exactly what adapter you bought. However, some adapters may put the USB-A port upside down. Check to make sure you are plugging the flash drive into the USB adapter in the correct direction. No insult is intended or implied. I have personally seen some USB connectors end up being backwards from what is considered normal.

Edit: Some USB connections can also end up being very tight.

The problem seems to be that the white bar inside the USB adapter end is too long for the flash drive (I've tried multiple flash drives so its not the flash drive). I googled the problem and the only solution seems to be to force the flash drive, which i'm not willing to do because I have important files on it so I'm just going to return the adapter to apple and order a different one off of amazon.com. Thanks for your help.
