Missing album artwork
I have just upgraded to Catalina and now most of my album artwork is missing in the Music app. It will reappear intermittently and then disappear again. It is always missing on opening the app.

Even though macOS Catalina has gone through many beta testings, there is still many bugs and problems that need fixing. Even in the latest version of macOS Mojave that my Mac is running it also does the same thing. I have found that a short term solution is removing it from your library, then re-adding it. It might not be the best solution but if you really want the album art back then you will have to do this. But if is not a big problem, wait for another version of Catalina where they fix the issue.
Anyway, what Mac do you have? I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2012. I was wondering if it might just be a problem for a certain model of laptop or all of them.
This issue is not resolved as outlined in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250711429
Although some of the album art eventually shows up, there are albums where this is not the case and in fact the files themselves have been corrupted and have lost the attached artwork somewhere in the transition between Mojave and Catalina.
I also have this problem. After upgrading my MacBook Pro (2016 15 inch) from Mojave to Catalina about half of the album artwork has vanished. When I first opened Music after the update it instantly went in to an updating mode and a half hour later when it finished I found the artwork missing. In addition I also found some artwork had been changed from the original version to that of a later release and several instances where artwork that was in the German language had been changed to the English version.
Have the same problem. Most of the artwork re-appeared for me but not all of it. Funny / sad thing is that when playing a track the artwork appears in the small mini play bar but not in the main album view. This is a very old bug I used to work around in the last iTunes versions by going to the album view, open an album, mark all tracks with cmd+a then press cmd+i and change something on the album (like set bpm to 1, then save and delete it again), then on saving the album artwork re-appeared.
Also in the iTunes album view you could run through albums with arrow keys, so this was a tedious process but a working one. Unfortunately this doesn't work in this version...
The issue seems to have resolved itself.
I have a late 2015 iMac5k. I think you are right about needing to wait. It is a shame that when they ported from iTunes to Music on macOS, they seemed to carry over issues like this. It is never a problem in the iOS Music app.
Same issue. Synced fully upgraded iPhone 11 Pro Max to Macbook Pro Mid 2014 running Catalina and now lost 70 percent of the album artwork in my music app on my iphone (will need to check music app on macos). And my didn't resolve itself. Not yet anyways.
Mine started out like that but eventually loaded, but my issue is that album art cannot be removed from songs anymore, I like to add my own but it's just adding to the size of files having 2 artwork attachments now
Could the problem be that when I was using Mojave , there was no album art work for some of the albums I downloaded and I had to get them off the web . Could these be the albums with the missing art work. I will be checking to see if any of the artwork changed. I wish Apple would fix this problem
I'm having this issue too on a 2015 iMac. About a third of the artwork is missing from my personal library with 3500+ albums. Before the transition I had artwork for virtually every album. I can't even fathoming having to manually re-add the artwork.
In my case is updating the artwork from the start, the problem is that now it doesn't find all of the albums artwork, or even the artists. When I try to check if the album exists in the iTunes Store it sends me to different artists or albums. I don't have a big library but it is taking forever and some have to be edited manually to get the artwork to show again.
Anyone else is having this issue too?
I am having the same problem on my Mac, half the artwork for my albums does not show up . I can add them manually but it is a slow process . Any suggestions
Still not seem many of my album artwork on my Mac Pro in Music. So I'd say it is NOT resolved at all. Safari is a mess too now. I
Same issue. iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 (8G RAM). 4000+ albums, every one of which had artwork associated before switching to Catalina. Now more than half (estimated) of the artwork is missing. When I open the Music app in the bottom left I'm informed "Loading artwork...", though after extended periods (multiple instances) there is no apparent addition. Also, while the app is running my Mac's performance bogs down to the point that the system is nearly unusable. I've had to invoke OPT-COM-ESC a number of times to get Music to close because it went "unresponsive".
Some advice suggests that just letting the Music app run will result in all the artwork eventually being restored, however if I leave the Music app running for more than about 45 minutes my system progressively degrades, then crashes and reboots (multiple instances). (FWIW, I'm completely up to date with the latest updates from Apple.)
I'd like to hear from Apple that this is a recognized bug in the new Music app, that they intend to fix it (or not), and if so, what's the schedule. Where would I find that?
Lastly, it used to be the case (pre-Catalina) that if I bought digital music from Amazon I could load it directly to iTunes from the Amazon Music app.. It doesn't work with the new Music app. Who needs to fix that: Amazon or Apple?
As it stands I plan to abstain from synching my iPhone and iPods, which means no new music except when sitting at home, and only if I load from cd (no digital).
I have less albums around 300 and I let the music app run until it was finished and it download the album covers for all but 45 albums. But some of the replaced album covers did not even match what was in the CD s. For example a Leonard Coen CD ended up with an album cover from what looks like a Mexican CD.
