imovie will not download as i do not have 0S 10.14.6

I just installed a new Samsung 1TB SSD in a late 2011 13" MacBook Pro and successfully installed High Sierra 10.13.6. I did not use any of the old hard drive so started fresh. However, I am trying to download

iMovie from App Store and I receive a window saying unable to download iMovie on Samsung 1TB as requires 10.14.6. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Did you have iMovie version 10 on your Mac before you installed the 1TB SSD?

If you did then sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and go to your " Purchased " page where you should see iMovie listed, and click install .

Just to be clear, have you ever at any time downloaded iMovie version 10 before?

If you have ,then you can still download a version that is compatible with your High Sierra.

For example, lets say that you have had a previous operating system on your Mac, maybe Mavericks,Yosemite, El Capitan e.t.c

and you had downloaded iMovie version 10 at that time.

Even with a new SSD and High Sierra you can still download a version of iMovie 10 that is compatible with High Sierra providing you have had it before. You have to sign into the App Store with the same Apple ID that you would have used to download it previously.

Quickest way is to look at your purchased page in the App Store, if it is listed there then you can re-download it.

Hi, Chrjenjul,

You are the first of whom I am aware to mention the issue of needing Mojave to update to current version iMovie. High Sierra 10.13.6 used to be sufficient to update to iMovie 10.1.12. However, iMovie 10.1.13 was released on October 7, and does require Mojave 10.14.6 or later. Unfortunately, the late 2011 MacBook Pro is not listed as a computer that will run Mojave. So, I think that you might be unable to download the latest iMovie. Apple has been allowing current iMovie to be downloaded on the previous operating system that, until Catalina was released, used to be High Sierra. Now that Caltalina has been released, Mojave is the previous operating system.

Thank you thesurreyfriends, I am afraid the original 500 G HD was void of anything as was a new/used machine to me. 2011 late iPad Pro 13” unibody. Put new 1TB Samsung in and works fine. Have latest High Sierra which is max for this machine. So I think I get what you may be saying, I I had older version of iMovie I could download and use. But old versions do not appear to be available at Apple?

thanks and sorry for delay in responding
