Catalina install failed on MacBook Air - startup only gives a grey screen - hard reset doesn’t function

I recently have had the same problem but there is a few ways it can be fixed. Firstly try re-starting your laptop and before the startups sound hold command + r for recovery mode. If this doesn't work try Command + Option + R for internet recovery. One it has started in recovery mode click on disk utility, click on your main drive and then click first aid in the pain bar. If this doesn't work try erasing your disk and re-installing the latest version of Mac (Catalina). Then try adding data back on with a time machine backup. If you don't have one I would highly recommend having one especially because Macs are kind of unreliable. Best bet is to find a good version of Mac and stick to it. If nothing works try booking a Genius Bar appointment to get your laptop fixed.

I’m having a similar issue only worse. I get no icon at all. Just a black screen for 30 seconds then it goes grey. No key combinations for recovery seem to work.
