Series 4 watchOS 6.01: can’t activate/set code

Security hole: The 4 digit security code I had to type on the watch when I take it on is no longer there. The feature to activate it is inactive/grayed out. There are no device profiles on either the watch or iPhone X (13.1.2). I tried re-pairing the watch and restore from backup. No luck.

Anyone else who can’t get the code to work?

Hello Asbjørn Evensen,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your Apple Watch and trouble with the passcode.

Please verify you completed the unpairing, erasing, and re-pairing of the watch to your device as described in this help article: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If you still have issues, please check Screen Time. If it is enabled, is Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > ALLOW CHANGES > Passcode Changed > Allow?

If not, change that to allow, and restart your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Hi

I can verify that I unpaired (wich also erases) and re-paired the watch with no luck. I have not activated any screentime restrictions for me either.

Yesterday I migrated to my new iPhone 11 Pro Max and transfered phone-content via iCloud, and the process transfered my watch as well, and paired it to my new Phone. Still there was no code, and I could not set any code.

When you asked me to verify the process I decided to try it again, and this time unpairing and re-pairing worked. During the restore from backup I was asked to set a 4 digit code, and the code now works and are needed after I take the watch off. I can‘t remember I was asked to set the code in the previous restore.

Technically this seems to require repeating the process three times before it worked...

Thank you for getting me to try it even one more time :-)
