Preboot folders
Since updating to macOS Catalina l now have 2 surplus folders Preboot and Preboot 1 both dating back to 2017, although they don't seem to causing any problems they are annoying - can they be safely deleted?

This is the output I get from your command: 😩
chflags: /Volumes/System/Preboot: Read-only file system
chflags: /Volumes/System/Preboot 1: Read-only file system
chflags: /Volumes/System/Preboot 2: Read-only file system
Sorry, it would appear that I misinterpreted your request here. I probably should have read back to determine exactly what the OP's issue was before responding to your Twitter request.
I do not have any Preboot folders at the root level of my Catalina drive, which explains all of my attempts to locate them, so it I'm not really a candidate for your tests.
Hi, I'm the author of Find Any File and other macOS file and disk tools.
I like to help figuring this out.
If you still have an older macOS version (pre-10.15) that you can boot from, do that, and then locate the Preboot folder on the "... Data" volume, then try to hide that, either with the "sudo chflags hidden /path/to/Preboot" Terminal command or with my tool (get it for free from http://findanyfile.app) by searching for it in root mode (hold down the option/alt key before clicking the Find button) and then right-clicking on the found Preboot folder and choosing "Hide".
Let me know if that works or not.
Yeah, I didn’t have these folders in Mohave either. They only appeared after upgrading to Catalina...
I have upgraded to Catalina, but on a different drive. I logged into a Mojave drive in order to attempt what Thomas Tempelmann asked.
Not tonight. It's almost 4am.
Yes, I renamed my Macintosh HD.
I’m due for a clean install anyways, this just gives me an excuse to finally do it...
That did the trick! Thanks so much for all your help... 😀
Awesome. Now, if Chris Brown10 could change the "Solved" answer to mine, that'd be great and more helpful to others probably, too.
Or, at least mark my answer as "Helpful".
