An external disk refuses to mount, com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930868.
What causes this particular error and what can I do to mount this drive or retrieve the data from it?

I ran into this issue with a Western Digital 2TB drive... I had seen some irreperable disk errors and was ironically, attempting to back the drive up so I could reformat it... so, I was panicking because I've got some important data on the drive and was starting to research data recovery tools. After messing around and doing some research, I discovered the system was trying to run a filesystem check on it and was getting hung up.
I opened a terminal window and entered the following commands
$ ps -ef | grep fsck
$ sudo kill [pid from above]
BAM! Disk mounted just like that.
At this point, I opened Disk Utility and ran First Aid... which ironically unmounted the drive and then got hung up again... DUH! So had to repeat the process. At this point, with the drive mounted, I backed up the drive and reformatted it.
Hope this helps.
ABSOLOTELY.
Tuxera is the way to go.
If the issue is exactly as is being discussed out here - then this is the one stop solution.
Just a few minutes and it has resolved it - in a snap!
Thanks guys. Ever so grateful.
Had lost sleep over it last night .... !!!
Well, you don't have to. Most probably last time you disconnected your drive unsafely and now system check it for errors, thus preventing it from instant mount.
For some reason Apple moderated out the offending process, which is mentioned all over this thread and I can't edit the post!!
The process I stopped is eff ess see kay. Hope it helps.
Or "fsck_hfs" on macOS Catalina
Could not mount disk
(com.apple.diskmanagement.disenter error -119930868) What do I do?
There is no process "fsck_ext" running on my machine
Solution for my disk not mounting is to format it? lol
What helps me was reinstall Mac OS.
Hope, that will helps somebody else.
Open Activity monitor and forse quit there fsck_ext. Will solve issuer.
I had the same problem with a Seagate 6Tb drive - partitioning worked for me too. Cheers!
Worked for me, but it wasn't called fsck_ext, it was fsck_something else. Quit the process and the drive mounted.
I will try that... I looked for the fsck_ext someone suggested in the Activity Monitor but it is not there. I can see the HD, however, it is not mounting. I dont know what Apple did, Catalina was not helping me in a bad day. Very annoyed but was experienced enough to notice it was the update of iOS and not an issue with my HD.
Thank you but I just tried and it is still not mounting, it shows that it is there but grey out. I tried manually mounting and even reversed my iOS but it is not mounting. I am starting to wonder if it was the HD itself... it would be a pain to loss all files!
Have the same issue with my external drive on my MacBook Pro
com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930868
The drive cannot be mounted in OS Catalina (10.15.1), drive is APFS 3TB HDD. Disk Utility shows it greyed out and if I try to mount it I get that error.
I tried to plug this drive in my friend's iMac with Mojave 10.14.6- it works just fine! Does anyone know how to make it work with Catalina?
So I think I will also contact Apple Support regarding this issue. But I have really strong argument here- my Seagate drive mounts and works ok with Mojave, so they won't be able to tell me that this is the problem with my drive.
