Apple Books: no tax?

So, my friend recently bought a book on Apple Books, and they said there was no sales tax. Well, they live in Michigan, and there’s supposed to be a 6% sales tax on all sales, even online. So what’s the reason Apple didn’t charge them tax on that book?
