MacBook Air (2014?) won’t turn on

My macbook air (bought new in 2014) suddenly shut down and will not respond when i press the power button. When plugged in to power adapter the adapter turns orange as if it is charging. However when I press the power button the adapter turns green for a second and then goes back to orange with the computer still not responding. I have *attempted* a SMC reset based on what I’ve read but nothing changes. This happened a while back and I left my computer to sit for about 6 months as I had given up but recently it turned back on again and has been working fine for a week. Now here we are again): Help?

Make sure your Magsafe charger and Magsafe port are ok using this Apple troubleshooting article:

Check the health of your battery by Option clicking on the battery icon. Any condition other than "Normal" or "Good" means the battery should be replaced.

If you still have problems, then take the laptop to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined.

See what Apple has to say. The service diagnostics may provide more information about the health of the battery and the laptop. FYI, just because a diagnostic passes, does not mean everything is Ok. It just means that the diagnostic was unable to discover a problem.

If the battery & laptop checks out fine, then just make sure not to let the battery become completely drained. I'm just guessing this is what is causing your problem from what you have posted. There is always a chance you could have some other hardware issue.

Good luck.
