BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR IPHONES!

My complete family and I have been using iPhone for the last several years. And my brother's (under age 20 years old) iPhone X with password and face recognition was stolen 2 weeks ago. He disabled the phone with its IMEI thinking that it went to be done. But it was not like that!! The person who stole the phone was calling and sending messages to my brother. At the beginning, we thought he only had access to the phone number. We were wrong. My brother changed his number and disable his social media pages. Now, I am receiving message from him with my credit card number (I cancelled it of course) which was associated to my brother's apple account. I am receiving pictures from my wedding with my wife with comments from that person. I even received request of money from him!! HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT!!! Apple supposed to provide safety to their users. My family are in danger for a thief who was able to hack an iPhone X!

Of course we set the iPhone as “lost” through Find my iPhone. It was the first thing that we did, but the phone was hacked before it got connected to the internet. An even if we hadn’t done it. The real problem is:

You did not say this in your initial post. How could anyone here know this?

If you got Lost Mode set up, nobody could "hack" your device. Unless you chose a weak passcode to be set up on the device as part of enabling Lost Mode, or your existing Pass Code was weak and easy to guess.

Apple devices are not being safe enough

This is not the perception about iOS. Many posts here are about the opposite.

When configured correctly, iOS is not regarded to be subject to compromise.

I didn't say it because even we set it as lost in the app, the phone never got connected to the internet after one week waiting for that. People cracked the safety walls before connection to the internet. Our last action was, additionally to "stop trusting the device", block it by imei. And you should see how easy they hack the iPhones there in Peru. After doing some research, my brother went to see for his phone to a place "Las Malvinas, Peru", a kind of dangerous place where people sell stolen iphones completely unblocked. So, THEY ARE NOT AS SAFE AS THEY SAY THEY ARE. We realized my brother's iphone was only one more of hundreds hacked stolen iphones.

For the people who think about “Find my iPhone”

The safety is what I am questioning! Apple devices are not being safe enough, since a person was able to get all our personal information including credit card with an iPhone with passcode and face recognition!

Hello HumbertoDlc,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From what I understand there are concerns over some posts and messages you're receiving from another iPhone that belonged to your brother. I'll do what I can to help and point you to the right place.

The text messages appear to be attempts at phishing. You can learn more here: Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams

The best thing your brother can do from here is to look into the steps here, specifically with passwords and purchases for his Apple ID and his other accounts as well as contacting local law enforcement: Get help with security issues

If he has other questions or concerns, have him reach out to Apple directly: Contact Apple Support

Have a great day.

And about “social networking sites”. You can to take a better look to the pictures.

These pictures from my wedding, contact, credit card etc were showed from the lost iphone. I mean, he is using his own phone to record videos and pictures showing in my brother’s phone. Take a better look into the pictures. The pictures are taken to my brothers iPhone.
