I use Microsoft Office 2011 on my MacBook Pro. Am I correct that if I install Catalina, I will no longer be able to use these Microsoft programs unless I upgrade to a more recent version? Thanks.

Office 2011, as the name suggests is 8 years old. There is office 2019 now. 2011 was written for 32 bit OSX, which under Catalina no longer has support.
There are numerous alternatives, and depending on what you use Office for, Pages, Numbers and Keynote can all do a certain amount of the same things, some even better IMO, although numbers leaves a lot to be desired vs Excel still.
You are correct. Your Office suite is not supported on Catalina, but the 64-bit, free LIbreOffice suite is supported.
Office 2008 and Office 2011 are 32-bit application suites and Catalina requires the 64-bit Office 365, or single purchase Office 2019 for Mac.
Not even Microsift supports the older versions of Office.
