I can't rearrange folders on desktop

Since my latest MacAir update (I'm running Mojave 10.14.6, all my files are permanently placed on the right side of the screen, whereas before, I could move them manually. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can rearrange them? I found a site about forming stacks (fir an older version of Mojave), but I don't have that option.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you might have.

Try to right-click (or control click) on the desktop background and use the "Sort by" option set to "None"... and then drag icons around to where you want and it should then remember your layout.

Good luck...
