Email Draft Disappeared While Editing!

I started a business email in my Apple (iCloud) Mail this morning, but got interrupted so I saved it as a draft. When I came back to my laptop, I found the draft and double clicked on it to finish the letter. I needed to remove an extra space in the email, but when I hit delete, the whole email disappeared! It's not in my Drafts folder or my Trash folder. I've been using a Mac for about 10 years and this has never happened before! And the email was fully opened for editing... So, where is my email??
