Why do I Have to Click Twice to Open Catalina Mail

yellow dot minimizes window, not closes.

When you boot your computer, and Launch Mail, sometimes there is no window to look at.

Then don't close the last window before quitting, or disable Resume--I don't know if that is possible.

It's not, there is no Resume function on Apple that can be disabled, so we'll see if Apple do anything now it has been reported.

Are you sure you get "been through this many times?" This the short version: the solution is press Command + Q to quit Mail, nothing else. Problem is solved.

FWIW, if you minimize the viewer window before you quit Mail, when you reopen Mail. the viewer window will apppear for a brief moment then minimize.

Indeed you quit Mail with command-Q however when you click on Mail to open it, it does open Mail (menubar shows Mail) but not the window.

The window opens only when you click again the Mail icon.

Same here, if it's a new feature ...can we PLEASE get rid of it.

Mind you, mail in iOS 13 is doing daft things as well ...every time I launch the App it goes the the Mail folders page, rather than the Inbox, which is where I was when I closed the App.

In the mode I'm using (column of emails on the left - 3 lines each) and blank window on the right: one click opens the email in the right hand window, 2 clicks opens it in a new window. That how is was with Mojave.

Boot up MacBook, then click on the Mail icon in the Dock to Launch Mail ...it starts, and shows the number of unread email in the Dock Icon ...but the Mail window doesn't open, you have to click the icon a second time?!?

Well for any techies, when I click the icon once it doesn't open in minimised mode, or minimised to the icon (there is an animation that expands a minimised App from an Icon and that doesn't happen when you click the icon a second time ...it just instantly appears.

I've tried clearing the saved settings and rebuilt the mailbox but no change.

I really didn't fancy rebuilding :(

Now we can calculate the probability that one person has 5 machines that work in one way and another person has 5 machines that work in another way with the same setup ;)

This is not probable and i have 3 machines that do the same, have to double click as well or open mail and use the command+1 to open the main window.

I assume that the person who claims he does not have the problem does either have one type of machine that indeed does behave differently or, which often happens, does not talk about the same.

I've just found an old thread about a similar issue many years back and every poster understood something else. The question was the same like it is asked here and only those who have the issue will immediately understand what is meant. For someone without the issue it will perhaps be non-comprehensive at first glance.

However that is, right now i have to click twice on the dock icon to open mail the way it was working with one click before.

If I click the mail icon once the top ribbon displays.

If I click it again then the whole of Mail opens. Similarly if I double click in the first place.

I am aware of this happening before but never got worked up about it. If the app doesnt fully open just click the icon again. No big deal. Once open I leave it open for days anyway.
