Before I upgrade to Catalina I want to know whether the problems in Mojave are solved, like: After my upgrade to Mojave, my MAC is very sluggish, meaning the start-up sequence takes up to 5 Minutes!!!!!! I got me Clean my Mac X, and it got somewhat better.

Also, I had to upgrade to Office 365, and when I start one of the programs, like Word, the icon is jumping for about a minute; Outlook is even more, and crashes most of the times during start up.

I am in contact with MS, and they always promise that there will be an upgrade soon (just the usual).

So, does somebody know whether Catalina solve these issues?

I was already considering going back to PC (I completely changed from windows products to Apple in 2009 and have an Orchard now), but Apple neglected the IMacs and I hope that that changes. Right now working with either company is messed up.

If you are thinking of upgrading to Catalina you will need to determine what 32bit apps you have.

Catalina will not open 32bit apps so you either update those apps to 64bit versions, or if no updates

are forthcoming from the software developers then you will need to seek out 64bit alternatives.

This app, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/ will list your 32bit apps, the rest is up to you.

Your issues are almost certainly related to a slow probably full and fragmented hard drive. Those imacs came with 5200 rpm plates - there are dinosaurs. If you can get a SSD installed its will resolve your issues including the boot time instantly.

Clean my mac is not worth a bean and could actually damage your machine rather than help. Remove asap.

Recommend you boot using whilst holding down cmb R keys, open disk utility and run disk repair from there.

Should help in remapping the drive for you and it might also find and correct any permissions issues.

As for Office365 well thats just a MS penny and dime con - They want your monthly donation rather than having the traditional programmes you own.

For light word processing pages might be sufficient with saving to .Docx.

Your issues are hardware and don’t sound Os related to me.
