Mail app crashes every time on Catalina

After an update to Catalina, Mail app begun crashing every time. It takes around 10-20 seconds before it happens. I can even browse emails and write a new one, when suddenly and without warning it crashes.

I tried some tutorials how to fix it that I found elsewhere to absolutely no avail. The problem persists. This is unbelievable. I never expected such a fatal error being delivered with new system. My bad.

I've had problems with Mail randomly crashing in Mohave and Catalina when writing emails with docx and pdf attachments. Today, Mail started crashing immediately upon opening. Don't know if the two issues are related. I found this remedy on another Apple support thread which seems to have fixed the crash-on-open problem:

Using Finder remove the entire Mail folder to trash from ~/Library
When you restart your MacBook and launch Mail, it will automatically build your Mailboxes and folders and populate it with your old Mail.
