Also, my transmit which allowing me transfer files with server stops working also.

Only noticed the page from 2011 and their version XQuartz-2.7.11.dmg from 2016-10-29

without any claims or disclaimers. ~ Because I've not needed quartz or X11 for awhile,

my reply was sketchy and non-committal. Does same page link d/load 64-bit version?

Caboose was at AKRR siding near Trail Lake @ Moose Pass; south of tressel, where there

used to be official station-stop and station master house. Those were removed in 1980s.

[..AKRR runs N+S on eastside of 'Upper Trail Lake' ~ image view from west. RR siding on right; behind trees..]

[.Reduced res image c. 2004. D70 Nikon w/ 1 of 2 nikkor zm AF lenses; recorded then, my only non-film SLR.]

Used to do more w/ cameras, & hands-on 35MM film. ~ Lumix DMC-FZ1 was favored, before SD card failure.

Good luck & happy trails!🌤

For Transmit, be sure you have the latest version. Some versions 4.x are not compatible with Catalina. Then you may need to grant it access to any directories (folders) you would like Transmit to use (e.g., Downloads, home, etc.). Catalina should prompt you as needed to grant that access, but if you deny it, Transmit will not be able to transfer files to and from that directory tree.

For XQuartz, be sure you have 2.7.11 (or higher for anyone who finds this later). That's working fine for all of us here with ssh.

If you are using it just to ssh, however, I strongly recommend you take a look at iTerm2 (https://iterm2.com). You can set up profiles with an xterm terminal, and if you set the command in the profile to be ssh -Y user@server, then XQuartz will launch as needed to receive the forwarded X connection and run any X Windows apps.

Amazing pictures! What a sight that must be. Work has taken me near Anchorage many times over the years, but I sadly never had the opportunity to fly down or catch the RR to Moose Pass or anywhere els to explore. Alaska's beauty is unrivaled.

The version of 2.7.11 XQuartz at the site (installed via a package) is 64-bit, and works great on Catalina. Sometime prior to 2.5, the builds started including all 64-bit libs, and it's been a 64-bit app ever since Apple stopped including X11 to my knowledge - despite the age of the release.

I still recommend using this on an as-needed basis due to the number of security issues, which they used to close quickly with each release. Since it's been some time, and since no software is perfect, users may be taking a risk with some of the libraries this version is built with.

That's why I suggested that if @Euroka-Sci is using this just to ssh, they should switch over to using iTerm2 or Catalina's built-in Utilities -> Terminal.app.
