iMessage finds multiple "Matches" to a name I search for - what does this mean?

When I search for a name of someone I want to text (and have texted previously) in iMessage on my Mac, it says "5 matches" for the name, but when I then click on the name, only ONE conversation shows in the window to the right. I assume that means that that person's name is in 5 different threads of texting that I have going, but I don't know how to access the other threads on which that name might be attached. Any ideas? Thanks!

The other matches might be only in Contacts, not in Conversations. They might include contacts them for iPhone phone number, land line phone number, iCloud email address, alternate email address, or something else.

I don't think you are missing anything; If the previous conversation is familiar, just use it, as it is likely the most recent, or possibly the ONLY conversation.

Thank you, Grant, for the quick reply! Multiple kinds of contacts COULD be the explanation...I just am curious why often when I go to text on my computer, the most recent texts I've been sending/receiving on my phone are NOT the most recent ones I see. I would think that once I open the Messages app on the laptop, iCloud would start updating automatically and shortly have everything synced up, but it doesn't seem to do that regularly, so I thought maybe that was a connection.
