Dock memory leak?

I just did a clean (internet) install of Catalina on a 2017 27" iMac.

Without any programs running other than Activity Monitor, I noticed that the dock starts to use more and more memory without any apps being opened.

When the computer is first started, the usage is low ~35MB, but after a few hours of the computer just sitting idle, the memory use of the dock goes up to around ~750MB.

This seems very high for the dock.

I have the background image changing every 15 minutes from the stock Mac photos, not sure if that has something to do with it, it shouldn't.

I have no other running apps other than activity monitor and I use Steelseries exact mouse to disable mouse smoothing.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Bean Mac,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your dock is taking up an unexpected amount of memory on your Mac. I’m happy to help. I suggest testing in safe mode and a different user account to see if the issue persists:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

Let me know if that helps.

Take care.
