System Updates fail, "Authorization is required to install packages" Fix?

I have auto updates on but they fail and I have to use the command center logon to install or update system....I recently slicked my HD and reinstalled Mojave 10.14.6 but Safari updates fails...and Catalina will not install , same error......2017 iMac

Please clarify slicked...?


If you mean switched...? Then please explain exactly how you formatted the new drive and installed macOS Mojave. Because it sounds like the Mojave install was not done correctly.

3. Install macOS


If the installer asks to unlock your disk, enter the password you use to log in to your Mac. If the installer doesn't see your disk, or it says that it can't install on your computer or volume, you might need to erase your disk.
