Apple Watch Series 3 won't hold charge

Since doing the latest watch update (6.0.1), my apple watch series 3 suddenly will not hold its charge. 100% this morning when I put it on, and 4.5 hours later it is already down to 35%. It has done this the last 2 days as well. I have tried resetting it, closing background apps, changing settings to extend battery life, but it is still draining when I am sitting at my desk not moving. Has anyone had any luck with resolving this issue?

I think I, with the help of Apple Support, solved my issue with my Apple Watch Series 3 not holding a charge after upgrading to WatchOS 6.0.1. I was told to erase the watch and reinstall the software, pair the watch and iPhone XR. I did all that last night by 9PM. I fully charged the watch by 9PM. Now, at 11:30 AM the next day, I still have 68% battery charge left. Had I not done all that, I would have to re-charge the watch by this time.

I recommend following those steps I did listed above, I believe your issue with the watch battery will be resolved. If things change with my battery, I will post something. Good luck and thank you Apple Care support!

My iPhone XS and gen 2 watch both still seem to be fine, since i updated my phone to 13.1.3

Having said that, i had unpaired my watch and then re-paired it to try to sort my watch battery problem out BEFORE the iOS 13.1.3 update....maybe that has helped my phone and watch remain stable and work totally normally?

Fingers crossed they continue to stay normal! :-o

It charges fine, just doesn't hold the charge. I used to get 2 days out of my watch. I'm about to charge it again, 6 hours after its last full charge. I think its to do with the latest software update personally. A friend has the series 4, has done the update and has found their watch doing the same thing the last 2 days.

I am having exactly the same problem with my Gen 2 Watch....I was getting almost 2 days out of a full charge, but this week it has started losing charge overnight while I sleep...so 8 hours or so.

It has to be something to do with the new operating system as nothing else has changed EXCEPT the battery SUDDENLY going from great to near unusable.

HELP!

Guess what...the iOS update I got yesterday for my iPhone XS (13.1.3) seems to have TOTALLY sorted out my Watch problems. It seems the problem may have been the iOS update and NOT the WatchOS update (5.3.2 as 6 is not available yet for Gen 2 watches).

That would certainly ring true as my XS was running hot a lot for no apparent reason. Whatever it was doing drained the phone battery faster BUT was MOST DEVASTATING on my Gen 2 Watch battery!

It's been a week of having a barely usable watch...but now calmness has returned, it seems. After a full charge 5 hours ago, my watch is now sitting at 92% charge...just like normal. WHEW! What a RELIEF!

I hope this proves true for you too for us all :-)

Of course that update actually came through when I was in Apple getting my phone (XS) assessed for the same problem as you had with yours (overheating & mine was resetting itself)! Did the update when I got home and phone is working perfectly again and watch has lasted me all day with 67% left on it. Bloody updates!! Stoked it’s sorted though.

I don’t think it’s an issue with watchOS 6.0.1 - I think it’s an issue with the iOS13 that they’ve done for the phone. Cause my iPhone XS is also overheating at the same time and has been since I started having the watch issues. When I did the phone update to iOS13.1.3 it seemed to fix the issue for a few days, but I’m back to getting 6 hours out of a full watch charge again. I took both into Apple last week and apparently there is no fault with either device.
