Home sharing on Catalina is not working. I have clicked "Home Sharing" under "Media Sharing" in settings > sharing. I get prompted for my Apple ID password to create the home share. I fill it in and press enter. Home sharing is not turned on and I get no error message.
This worked for me:
Go into the new Music or TV app and select from the menu drop down "Account/Authorizations/Authorize this Computer". Provide you password etc. Once completed go back in sharing and enable media sharing/home sharing.
Brilliant Jon64. It worked for me also. Note to others: This issue was on my Mac Book Pro 2018. It used to be authorized before the upgrade to Catalina. It seems it has to be authorized again.

Exact same issue here. Catalina home sharing worked with my MacBook Air, but doesn't on my (brand new) iMac.
