handoff has problem when copy and paste text between MacBook and iPhone

After I upgrade my MacBook to Catalina, I found out my iPhone (IOS 12.2) can't paste text which copied from MacBook. After I clean installed the latest version of IOS (13.1.2), the handoff still partially not working.

For example, my MacBook can receive calls or messages that were sent to my iPhone. Also copy text from iPhone and paste to MacBook works totally fine. However, it just won't work if I copy text from MacBook and then paste it to iPhone. Whenever I tried to paste text to iPhone from MacBook, iPhone will first freeze a few seconds, and then won't come out the paste option.

I have both devices on the same Wifi network, and both have bluetooth on. It just started to work abnormal after I upgraded to Catalina.

If anyone has a solution please help.

Thanks a million

I had this same problem between my macbook pro and iphone xr, but fortunately I was able to fix it.

All I did was log out of my icloud account on both the laptop and the phone - then I logged back in and handoff was working again!

Super easy fix, hope it works for you!

I tried the suggestion of logging out and back into iCloud on both my iPhone and my MacBook. It didn't seem to help, but it did change the behavior a bit. Now if I copy text on my MacBook, the paste option simply is not available on my iPhone; it no longer freezes for several seconds like the OP describes and as mine did before.

Interestingly, if I copy text on my iPhone, I can paste it on my MacBook, so the clipboard handoff is working in one direction.

BTW... if you log out of iCloud on your phone, you will have to add your credit cards back to your wallet for Apple Pay after you log back in. For one of my cards, I had to call my credit union to get it hooked back up.

Then I have no clue..... I had EXACT same issue as you have, but it's back to normal after I done what I mentioned above. If above methods doesn't work for you, then you might need to search for a different method to resolve the issue.

I first found it was 1password because not only handoff paste would freeze my phone, but also auto-fill 1password would freeze my phone. For now I'm running latest IOS and latest 1password I don't have such problem anymore.

I checked and 1Password did need to be updated on my iPhone. However, even after updating, the clipboard handoff still seems to only work copying from my iPhone and pasting on my MacBook. If I try the other way, the phone is not seeing the clipboard updates from the MacBook. I did the logout/login of my Apple ID yesterday, so don't want to try that again. I even tried restarting my iPhone just in case, but that didn't seem to help either. So for me, the most important direction, copying from MacBook and pasting on the iPhone, is still broken.

I've essentially done all of this since I first realized that clipboard handoff was not working. At first I was having the problem where every time I copied something into the clipboard on my MacBook, the iPhone would freeze for several seconds. After trying some of these steps, the freezes are gone and clipboard handoff works iPhone -> MacBook. I still can't get it to work MacBook -> iPhone. I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling 1Password. Handoff was still broken after uninstalling 1Password, and reinstalling it didn't change anything.
