In the interest of speed, I'd like to be able to advance to the next caption in a sequence of captions in the timeline via a keyboard shortcut instead of clicking on the Go to Next Caption button. There is no shortcut listed in the Command Center. Is this just not possible?
I still want to know where the command you mention is, but I can offer an easy alternative!
Open the Timeline Index (command-shift-2), click on "Captions", and you can navigate back and forth just using the arrow keys 😃

Can you show us where in the FCP X is this command?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Typing Caption in the Help menu shows several commands, but no "Go to the next caption" or similar...
Thanks for that. Oddly, it does not seem to work. I tried a couple of different key combinations, and checked the wording of the command, which, in FCPX is Go to the next caption
But when I attempt the shortcut, nothing happens. Just the dull sound of an unrecognized command.
My assumption is that this is a result of it simply not existing as a command in the Edit Caption dropdown.
Thanks again, Luis. The command exists in the context of the captions dialog box (see attached, left/right arrows in said box).
Regarding your suggestion, the up/down arrows do indeed work within the Index panel, but that's not really what I'm looking for. I want to be able to edit within the captions dialog box, and use a shortcut key instead of a click on the left/right arrow button to navigate between captions.
Sorry, I don't see any practical way to achieve this.
Thanks all the same. I think this is just an accidental omission from Apple’s FCPX team. Hopefully it will be addressed in the next software update.
Not at my mac right now but if that is the text of a menu you can use System Preferences to add a keyboard shortcut.
Go to System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts, click App Shortcuts, then click +.
Select Final Cut Pro as the application, type the menu text exactly and choose a shortcut. Be careful to choose one that is not in use and is mnemonic. That’s it.
You don’t even have to quit and restart FCP X!
