Flagged emails are gone from Mail app after upgrade to Catalina

Since upgrading, my flagged emails aren't showing up. (Using Gmail)

Clicking on the 'Flagged' mailbox doesn't show an empty folder - it just shows the last mailbox that was selected previously.

I can also flag emails in the app and they are still seen as flagged in the browser.

Hello HongKongFreedom!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I see that you’re having an issue with your flagged emails on your Gmail account, when flagging them through the Mail app. You mentioned that you can see the flagged emails in the Gmail webmail portal, is that correct?

Since the Mail app isn’t working as expected, please follow the steps here: If emails appear to be missing in Mail on Mac. If you find the issue is persisting, test in another email account which is not through Gmail. See if there is any change. If the flags are working with the other email, try removing your Gmail account and then adding it back in: Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac I hope this is helpful.

Enjoy your day.

I have the same problem only I didn't use gmail to flag them, my messages were all flagged with the mail app. I use flags for various reasons. Although the messages themselves retain the flag assigned to them, Catalina has stopped grouping them into the flagged mail folders. I've tried the mailbox rebuild with no luck. The emails are there, and IF the flag folders show up, clicking on them does nothing as if they are being ignored. Usually the folders are not even there. They may reappear if I click on a flagged email but are basically useless. I tried creating a smart mailbox for flagged emails but they behave the same. Something with how the mail app recognizes flagged messages and assigns them to the associated flag folder has been broken.
