Under watchOS 6.0.1 the stopwatch won't stay running in my complication. If the stopwatch is running, it always opens on the full watch face. I don't like this. What is the point of having the complication if it can only show 00:00? Previously, I could keep an eye on the stopwatch time in the complication.

Bingo! None of the three options was selected in my Watch App. I selected "While In Session" and the previous behavior resumed. Thanks!
The stopwatch updates as expected for me when viewed as a complication.
Perhaps it has to do with the watch face being used or the location of the complication on the watch face.
For the record, I am using the "Infograph" watch face with the stopwatch in the "Top Left" corner on a Series 4 running watchOS 6.0.1
If I start the stopwatch and press the crown, the Utility face on my Series 4 comes comes back with the stopwatch running in the top left complication. But if I put my hand down, then look a minute later, the watch wakes with the stopwatch open on the face. I can press the crown to get the clock face, but as long as the stopwatch is running, the watch always wakes with the stopwatch and not the clock face.
Perhaps play around with the Settings > General > Wake Screen > On Screen Wake Show Last App options and see if one of those options makes the behavior you are seeing better.
Not so fast. An hour later the watch opens up with the stopwatch again. :-(
Spent an hour on the phone with Apple tech support. They said "That's not right". But were unable to fix it.
