I have this problem too! Just got back from the Apple Store Genius Bar. They told me that although their software update caused the problem, that I'm out of luck with my out-of-warranty iPhone 7.

Of course, they offered the simple solution of buying a new iPhone with an Apple care package at full price (no trade in value on my phone because of scratches on the body).

Two hours of my day wasted, plus $4 of parking just to be told that the phone that I've managed to keep alive for years is dead, by no fault of my own (other than trusting Apple's IOS 13 update).

I'm going to make a BIG stink. I'm not going to quietly fall victim to this planned obsolescence.

Good for you man, they are so transparent in this, it’s getting ridiculous. I’m slowly gonna break free from my Apple eco system. They don’t treat their customers right. I did exactly what they wanted me to do, because they know we are trapped so to speak and I needed to get out of a jam in a jiffy so here I am with an iPhone 11. La-di-fricken-da! I much preferred my iPhone 7 to this phone.

Hello, I have the same problem - updated my IPhone7Plus from 13.1.2 to 13.1.3 - and since then the microphone and all the apps that use it (phone calls, Siri, voice memos, face time ...) are not working anymore. I have contacted Apple Support several times and visited the Apple Store - unfortunately without success.

A hard reset including a new IOS installation did not help. The only solution is the paid repair.

Unfortunately, Apple Support did not meet me. Last year (IOS 11.3), iPhone7 devices with audio errors were replaced with goodwill, but that was a one-time action to investigate the cause.

This was that an existing hardware defect could possibly be detected during an update, and after the update, this component might no longer work. What I do not understand is that the supposedly existing defect was not shown before the update and the microphone had worked fine. Now I have to use a BlueTooth Headset for my phone calls...

Would be happy about other experiences.

Were you able to find a reasonable solution to this? I had the exact same problem after updating to iOS 13.1 and called to an official Apple reseller yesterday. Same story, as the phone is out of warranty they cannot repair the phone for free. But they kindly offered to repair the phone for > €400 (absurd). Can't believe this treatment considering this has happened to a number of iPhone 7 users following a software update that Apple tell you you need. They gave me a number to ring Apple themselves but said the likelihood is I won't be able to get the repair done for free as the phone is out of warranty.

I think the right question is:

Why does an update disable a (partially functional) component?

Because that way, users can be forced to either pay for repairs or to buy a new device?

Yup, same here. This update completely obliterated my phone!

Speaker will work with music, doesn’t work with phone calls or Seri. Microphone also not working for phone or Seri. Pretty crappy the phone function is unusable after the update! Please help.

Yup, I totally agree. I had to move up to an iPhone 11 and just when I had my 7 Plus paid off.
