Verification Failed. There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.

Trying to connect iCloud on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014, with macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6) and after entering password of my mac account I always received "Verification Failed. There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.". On my main device iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017, with macOS Catalina Version 10.15), to be sure the password was right, I changed password and tried again. On my MacBook still the same, while I am very sure to have used the right password. Did the same after a restart, same result. I use my MacBook on travel and need to check and use my email, have the same desktop content, etc.

Best regards to all helpful responders.

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Paste that in a new reply.        Pastebin

Started up in Safe Mode, had to fill in a code received on my iPhone, iCloud connection was made: email was mirroring the emails on my iMac. For the moment Desktop content is not mirroring iMac Desktop content. Restarted in Safe Mode, Desktop also OK (perhaps I was not patient enough).

Started up again in new Admin account the normal way, eMail and Desktop still OK.

Started up in Safe Mode in original Admin account, eMail works properly, but Desktop content is different.

Started up in original Admin account normal way, eMail doesn't connect anymore: "Cannot send message using the server iCloud", so something must be wrong there with loaded stuff. Could still try the Etresoft Pastebin way later, I have to do some other work.

Anyway, I can continue working trough the new Admin account, many thanks.
