For example,
As part of the Catalina upgrade process, your Mac's internal drive should have been reformatted as a APFS container that will have at least two volumes, called MacIntosh HD & MacIntosh HD - Data. Is this what you see in the Disk Utility?
It should look something like the following image:
macOS Catalina added additional security by literally creating two volumes; one for the OS itself (Macinstosh HD), which is read-only, and a second one (Macintosh HD - Data), for user apps and data with read/write permissions.
Then your iMac's Fusion drive was set up properly by the installation process for macOS Catalina.
