iphone 11 pro camera won't focus

I'm on my second brand new Iphone 11 Pro and this one is having the same problem as the first. The camera won't focus. I can hear the lens' buzzing trying to focus and screen appears to shake.

I've got a Quadlock case on it and never dropped (either phone). The first issue happened within a week of getting the phone and Apple replaced immediately. Two weeks later and my new phone is doing the same thing!!

Forced reset, latest IOS, etc. done. The problem occurs on all camera apps (Halide, Camera+, Facebook, Instagram, etc...).

Help!

Had this issue yesterday after long ride to see my daughter. Given what has happened the mount is effectively useless until a fix is available or I find an alternative solution. Very disappointing.

I've registered on the link provided meanwhile some answers

  • Model and year of your motorcycle - Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja 2006
  • The type of riding you mainly do (eg: off-road/commuting/touring) - Road
  • KM's you've travelled since installing your mount - 400km
  • Average distance each ride - Only done two, first about 60km the next a long one which probably resulted in the issue
  • Model of phone - iPhone 11Pro
  • Photo of your mount installed on your bike. - No photo but it is a stem mount

Wow that’s interesting - so the camera or image stabilisation is vibrating even without mounting it on your bike? Not sure what to do about it then, maybe just get them to replace the phone, but after a while the warranty will expire and they will probably refuse to replace. Just can’t figure out what the problem is. Last time I hard reset the phone and for a while the camera was OK (for a couple of hours). Then the vibrating started again...

I had the same issue. Iphone 11 pro and quad lock on motorbike. Vibration on the camera, unable to focus. Apple store replaced the camera unit. Started again so took it back. They replaced the phone with a new one. Happened again after a week so took it back. They replaced the phone again but told me they wouldn’t replace it a third time. Gave the phone to my wife and took back my old iphone X which has never had an issue with the quad lock. The apple store told me they have had a number of issues with the 11 pro and the quad lock case.

Same here. I didn't know that it was from the vibration. I got it one day I didn't pay attention when it happened. But very soon after I bought this phone. I got it fixed with apple and they have replaced the camera unit. I do realise there's still some clicking sound when I open the camera app afterwards, but it's not constantly buzzing.

Then, after a 100mile ride on motorway on my 125, the camera stopped working properly.

Surely Apple can’t blame the quadlock case when both my 7 and XR that were both mounted on the same bikes in the past have never had an issue. If it’s a case that the 11 can’t handle vibration or whatever the cause of the camera packing it in, I’m taking my XR back off my son and he gets a very expensive new phone and I’ll use the older and tougher XR 🙄

Had the same problem. XR, X and 11 Pro.

its the optical focus system and the constant vibration of the bars.

if you want a phone for on motorcycle bars that one fail it needs Electronic, not optical focus/stabilisation.

Any phone brand with optical/mechanical is suffering. It’s not just Apple. My 2020 Katana resonates the bars like crazy. I’m going to try a Stem Mount and see if that reduces the problem.

Exact same thing happened to me. At first they said it was the magnet in my RokForm case, so they replaced the camera, next time they said it is because I mount it to my motorcycle bars and the vibration kills it, delicate camera.

My problem is that I use my phone for nav, music and phone calls on my bike all the time, they told me to just put it own my pocket instead. That won't work for me.

I've been using iPhones on my bikes since iPhones were first introduced. This is the first problem I've had.

I have my 3rd replacement phone but I’m afraid to use it on my motorcycle because I’m sure it will cause the camera to fail again. And then I’m unable to take pictures on my trips it’s so frustrating to spend this much money on a phone and it has this flaw I used my iPhone 7 for many miles with no problems. I wish apple would step up and admit the flaw and offer a refund so I could just get an older model iPhone that dose not have this problem so I can use the navigation without having to sacrifice my camera come on apple do the right thing.

As a motorcycle rider, and iPhone user since the first one I can understand the frustration.

I have had cameras fail in the modern phones.

i cannot however lay blame on Apple.

The average punter including me wants an excellent camera in their phone and to get to the resolution and then the zoom capability manufacturers needed to switch to a moveable lens arrangement for focal changes.

Unfortunately bike vibrate - a lot some times at high frequency. Even if we strapped a DSLR to the bars this would soon kill the lenses.

The only solutions in the case of later phones of all makes is either a tank bag if navigation is required or switch to an electronically focused (no mechanical) camera based phone.

Or just make a better camera sensor... We walk around with little computers and phones in our pockets. Those little devices can keep you caught up on social media, and it is also a map to the world. With that being said, you mean to tell me that they can't make a better camera that can withstand the vibration of a motorcycle's handlebars? Hogwash! I use a Garmin Zumo 395 on my Africa Twin for navigation but I do like to see my phone and who's calling and what song is playing in my Sena headset.

Glad I discovered this thread. Have had my 11Pro for less than a month and my 1x and 2x lenses started acting up. Quad lock case, handlebar mount.

I’m probably doing the same thing after this gets fixed and using an old “dummy” 7 or something connected to my pro as a hotspot.

Does anyone have knowledge of the sensor failing from being in a jacket pocket or backpack? From what I’m gathering it’s just the rigidity to the bars.
