Sign in with apple ID gets verification failed when using vpn on iPhone

I cannot log on to my Apple account on any of my devices (Mac, Iphone, Ipad, Macbook Pro, Windows) when my VPN is active. It seems that Apple will block access when their server doesn't recognize your IP address or device(s) associated with an account's profile and displays the "cannot verify your identity" message or a "Bad gateway" window on the browser.

For example, to sign in on my account to reply to your post, I had to turn the VPN off and sign in. Once logged on, I turned VPN back on and so far everything seems to function properly. (now I'm just wondering if I'll be able to post this reply with VPN on).

In conversation with a senior Apple agent, it sounds they are familiar with this issue but unwilling or unable to offer a workaround.

As a note, I don't have any problem logging on any other account/website with VPN on (so far).

My knowledge in this matter is somewhat limited, but to me, the primary purpose of VPN is to hide your IP address at your most critical moment when filling in passwords/security questions to log on an account.

From Apple's point of view, I suppose the logic would dictate: " Why would you want to log in on a stranger's (unregistered) device to download/purchase/install from your account?"

If there is somebody out there, more knowledgeable than I on the subject, I would certainly welcome the feedback.
