Apple TV remote app on phone and ipad

Apple TV gen 4 with TVOS 13, Apple devices with very latest iOS and iPad iOS. Since installation the remote apps activated via control centre on my Apple devices display two Apple TV’s under the “choose a tv” pull down (see accompanying image). I only have one Apple TV. Only one of the choices works but you have to guess which one. Once into the app performance is very flaky. Difficult to stop, start , fast forward etc. I’ve gone back to using the physical remote and everything works fine. How can I reset the Apple remote apps ? I’ve reset the TV and restarted phones etc. to no avail. To be fair, the control centre remote apps have always been poor performers for me and I’m not sure where the problem lies. Any advice welcomed.
