I recently downloaded Adobe Flash player and it created an icon on my desktop. I selected "eject flash player" and the adobe icon changed to a Macintosh HD icon, and now I can't get it removed. I've already tried to drag it to the Trash but that isn't working. How can I remove get it removed, and is it some kind of duplicate of fake hard drive path that stuff will be saved to now?

Restart your iMac to see if that fixes your desktop icon issue. Then before moving any desktop icon to the trash, control (right) click on it and select Get Info to make sure that it is really something that you want to trash.
Go to Finder menu > Preferences > General > Show these items on Desktop and uncheck Hard disks.
I've rebooted a few times since it initially happened, no change. When I go to "Get Info" all of it looks as if its my actual HD, as if i dragged a shortcut to my desktop or something.
