Since the upgrade to Catalina, I keep getting the message "touristd quit unexpectedly". I understand this is the program to give you a tour of the new software.
How can I get rid of the message? Is there perhaps a way to stop the program from starting up, or else a way to remove it. Is this a more common issues experienced by other users?

I have exactly the same problem, after updating to Catalina and log in for the first time I get "touristd quit unexpectedly"
clicking "Report" or "Ignore" makes the process start again and crash, it happens just about every 15 seconds, the only solution is to leave the dialog open and move the window away.

I just installed Catalina 10.15.1 and the problems have disappeared. So, it looks as if Apple solved the issue in this update. Please let me know if you experience the same, so the issue can be closed.
