iOS keeps refreshing webpages?

I know about the problem where iOS would refresh or outright completely unload pages whenever you switch tabs or go into another app for too long, but I have, multiple times, experienced a problem where it will outright refresh the page that I am on, AS I AM USING IT!

I am using an iPad Mini 4 on iOS 12.4.1 and the “refreshing pages” problem (which, by the way, is NOT limited to just Safari and can extend to anything from Chrome to DuckDuckGo Browser), has gone to the next level and is really infuriating.

Here is an example: I am playing The Legend of Zelda in an online emulator on the DuckDuckGo Browser or in the “browser” in Google Sheets, and after a certain amount of time, the game is interrupted by the page refreshing RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES and any progress that was not savestated to the server is completely LOST. GONE. DELETED.

Is there any way to keep this from happening? If there is not, then it is going to make completing this game WAY more difficult than it should be. Please help!

Also, note that the example above is not the only website that my iPad has refreshed while I was using it. This is just one example.
