With older version of "Find my iphone" i was able to track my son with his apple id and password. It was very simple just open "Find My iphone" app, enter apple id and pass and that was it. Now with the latest version I can't do this anymore. Why?

Privacy reasons. If you are trying to keep up with your children, then you should setup Family Sharing. That allows for you to track members of the Family group. See this, Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support

Thanks for your reply. I tried that but it asks for a authentication code which is sent to the device that is supposed to be lost or to help a friend find his device. That doesn't help. Not sure why would it do that.

When you go to Me in Find My, you can scroll down to Help a Friend, and that will take you to iCloud where you can enter Apple ID and password.
