I updated to Catalina and when I opened FCPX this window appeared: 'Pre-update backup failed: Could not backup library "(my project name)". Do you want to proceed with upgrade? '
What am I suppose to do? I am currently working on 5 projects. Nothing is showing in FCPX at the moment .

Cancel out and manually backup your libraries on a hard drive.
Cancel out of the update. If your working libraries are in your system and you have current backups on an external drive you should be good to go. Confirm that first and then proceed with the update.
Do you still have 10.4.6? If so, open the libraries in that and verify the storage location for each of them. If necessary you can restore 10.4.6 from Time Machine. Do everything in 10.4.6 before you update.

My libraries should already be back-up on an external hard drive. How can I confirm they are?
Also, I canceled out as you suggested and another window appeared : 'The library "(another project of mine)" must be updated to work with this version of FCP: Updated libraries can't be opened in earlier versions of FCP. To update the library, click update. To leave the library untouched, click cancel.'

From what I can tell, my files were being backed-up to a G-Drive Thunderbolt 3 external HD and to my time machine.
However, when I went to open two projects (low on the totem pole) this window popped up:
'Some storage locations for the library "(project x)" are unavailable.....
Needless to say I'm scared to open my more important projects.
Next steps?

I already updated to Catalina 10.15.
I understand. 10.4.6 will run in Catalina.
