Attempting to copy to the disk “Macintosh HD - Data” failed. An unknown error occurred (-54).

Hey guys,

So I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro with . Since I’ve updated to Catalina I’ve been unable to copy mp3 files to Music (iTunes), and I get this error “Attempting to copy to the disk “Macintosh HD - Data” failed. An unknown error occurred (-54)”. I still don’t fully understand the split drives that Catalina now has. But if anyone else has had this problem and can help me with it then that’d be great.

Try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Mac - Apple Community. Do you have any third party security software? They can sometimes interfere with the way iTunes/Music moves files around.

Run Disk Utility and check the health of your system drive, it may be failing.

Thanks for the reply. I actually ran first aid on both the mac hd and mac data hd and they both came back fine, so I’m a little unsure what else the problem could be.
