got an automated call saying that my cloud account was compromised and I should not use it until I called a number.... I am assuming that this is FRAUD?

The calls are scams from criminals trying to steal your personal and financial information. Hang up on them.

Apple will not call you regarding such an issue, unless you had initiated contact with them and were expecting a call back.
