mac book pro usb c to usb adaptor to midi

I have a yamaha usb midi adaptor for using with my electric piano. I use a multipart usb adaptor but when I connect the usb lead to the midi device, it won't power the device.

If I plug the midi interface to an ordinary usb, it powers up fine.

Is this a thing that can be helped?

I have a MBP 15inch 2016 (Catalina) and the midi adaptor is a Yamaha UX96.
