Getting the Belkin USB-c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter to work on macOS Catalina

For those of you who were as frustrated as I was these last couple of weeks since upgrading to macOS Catalina and realized that your Belkin USB-C Gigabit Ethernet Adapter was only providing a maximum of 100Mbps throughput, read on for a solution.

  1. Plug in the adapter and make sure it's connected to your network via an Ethernet cable
  2. Open System Preferences
  3. Click on the Network icon to open network settings
  4. Select the Belkin adapter from the listed services in the left panel
  5. Click the Advanced button to open advanced settings for this adapter
  6. Click on the Hardware tab
  7. Select Manually from the Configure menu
  8. Select autoselect from the Speed menu
  9. Click the OK button
  10. Click the Apply button

That's it. You should now experience full duplex gigabit Ethernet speeds (I checked using a popular speed testing sight). I have 400 Mps service and got exactly that using just the Ethernet adapter (turn off Wifi to test)
