Terrible call quality via WIFI calling on iPhone

I have an iPhone 7 plus and experience terrible voice quality when using the WIFI call option.

The WIFI network I use is from an Apple time capsule, latest generation.

Callers complain about volume going up and down and bits being cut out at their end, no problems with incoming voice sound. The issue only manifest itself for the outgoing data stream.

Same experience with using FaceTime on the iPhone.

Using FaceTime on an iPad, mac mini or MacBookpro on same wifi network works fine.

I have gone through the different suggestions found in other threads here, like resetting network, switching wifi call off and on, etc etc.

Nothing has helped.

It seem to have started with the new IOS 13 installation.

Is this a know issue, given that I've seen other people complain about the same issue. if so is there a bug filed yet for this issue?

Hi peterbr_,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are experiencing an audio issue while making calls over Wi-Fi. I am happy to explore this further to help gain a solution.

You took some great steps so far. I'd like to have you review and complete any remaining steps that are found here: If the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch aren't working - Apple Support. This includes testing your microphones to isolate the problematic microphone, as well as some additional steps found under the "Get help' section. You can also make sure there are no wireless interferences that can cause Wi-Fi connectivity issues: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support.

If the issue remains, please try these steps next:

-Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. If there is a newer update available, please consider updating to test for improvement: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

-Check to see if Wi-Fi Assist is turned on under Settings > Cellular (swipe up to get to the very bottom of the page). Test to see if your audio improves while this is off, or on.

-Test on multiple Wi-Fi networks.

Feel free to reply back with an update after following these steps.

Kindest regards.
