Sometimes you need to hold down those keys before you actually power up your Mac. Give it a try ... even a few times.
If you still can't get your Mac into Recovery Mode, then it may be possible that the Recovery partition on your Mac is missing or corrupted ... and that your Mac is too old to have it in its firmware. If that is the case, you will need to make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to assist you with this.
I had similar problems back-grading to Mojave. I ended up losing my computer contents in the process; when I re-upgraded to Catalina, I ended up with multiple HD icons - and a visit to the Apple Store.
As Tesserax said, it's best to visit your local Genius Bar or equivalent.
Thanks, I connected my keyboard with the charging cable and it worked, I got the options for recovering. Unfortunately, I didn't have any earlier backups. I bought this IMac a few months ago and I didn't backup before yesterday. So, can I get the older macOS Mozave 10.14 anywhere? And, would it work if I get it and just copy it?
Go to the App Store and do a search for Mojave. If you can get it I'd get an external HD and try to install it on that first. Be sure to copy the installer out of the Applications folder as it will be deleted when the installation is completed.
In the App Store I didn't find Mojave. However, finally, my Premiere Pro is working. I uninstalled it and didn't re-install right away, rather I waited about 7 days and during that time there were updates for both macOS Catalina 10.15.1 and most of the Adobe Apps. I updated everything and then installed the new updated Premiere Pro. During opening it, I checked 'Alow' Premiere Pro access to my documents. Now it's working. Thanks everyone.
It didn't work. After restarting my Mac I pressed and hold Command and R buttons but nothing happened, no apple logo appeared.
Try pressing the keys just a bit harder, and press them like you mean it.
Are you using a wireless keyboard? I've had problem with it when booting into other modes. I use a old wired keyboard for those boots now. If you can get a wired keyboard give it another try.
