printer problem with Catalina... disaster for the office

I just downloaded Catalina.... and right the following moment, the PRINTER is not printing... I can't find which devil pushed me to download Catalina, but this is a disaster for my office.

I have to print right now... and I cannot. Who is the guy responsible for this?

You do realise that you are not speaking with anyone from Apple here. This is a user to user forum

and the basic thing to remember is before upgrading to a new macOS you have to do your research to

see if your printers/ scanners or other hardware you use with your Mac will continue to function.

So therefore your Mac your printer your responsibility. If you find your printer no longer works with a newly installed OS then you have to check with the manufacturer of the printer to see if they are providing driver and software for the printer in the new OS. It is impossible for Apple to ensure that their OS will work with the hundreds/ thousands of different printers scanners etc. When Apple announces their new OS, developers at software companies are invited to test the new OS and it is up to them and the companies they work for to either support their devices in the OS or not.

Malware is certainly not introduced with the download of Catalina. If your Mac did have malware on it then that

can only be introduced by you downloading software from third party sources that have a less than enviable

reputation. Again that is your responsibility.

Advising a customer who has paid 3000€ for a computer (which was working perfectly and wirelessly with the SAMSUNG C410W Printer for the past three years) to contact the Printer Manufacturer, to tell them to create new Drivers for it... is at least RUDE and IMPOLITE.

APPLE has to understand that a customer is still a nice person, and that new products should be perfectly compatible with other devices, like the old products.

Thank God... there was a stubborn APPLE support guy in TELEPHONE APPLE SUPPORT (GREECE) named Thanos who told me:

Sir, you have a very good printer, it is a challenge for me to fix your compatibility from Remote (from distance)... and so he did, after 2,5 hours of persistent telephone co-working on my computer.

When I finally asked him what was the problem, he said that he was not sure and that it was probably the fact that some MALWARE was set up during the Download of CATALINA.

However, he said that the initial APPLE response from EAU ROUGE (... Your Mac, Your Responsibility) was, at least inappropriate and rude to a customer, as it was obvious that the problem began after Downloading CATALINA.

So, thank you all for joining in the Discussion, thank you EAU ROUGE for your response, and thank you Thanos for solving the problem.

By the way, SAMSUNG had already in my computer the New Drivers for CATALINA... so it was useless for me to contact the Printer Manufacturer and ask them to release new Drivers.

Another misunderstanding. It is not Apple's responsibility to ensure Adobe products work with Apple computers. As always, it is the third party app devlopers responsibility to ensure their product works with Apple computers if they want their products to run on Apple computers.

Is it GM's responsibility to make sure their cars work with GoodYear tires or is it GoodYears responsibility to ensure their tires work with GM vehicles if they want their tires to work on GM vehicles?

You appear to have a basic misunderstanding of these communities who is volunteering here, and as well you are unfamiliar with how third party manufacturers support their products. Apple does not write printer drivers nor are they responsible for driver upgrades. The first place I would go to get compatible drivers, whether for a printer, scanner, etc. is the manufacturer of the device. So you were provided with the best advise possible.

If the online support person indicated malware was installed with Catalina they were mistaken. Only you could have installed malware. The online support person likely went to the printer manufacturer's site and downloaded an updtaed driver just as you were originally advised to do.
