Does it make a difference when multiport adapters are connected to 2 (instead of 1) USB-C ports of the MacBook Pro?

Some adapters are connected to the MacBook Pro via 2 ports, e.g. the Purgo 7-in-2 USB C Hub Adapter. But does it have any advantages against adapters which are only connected to 1 port, other than better physical stability?

If you connect multiple high-capacity drives, and access them all at EXACTLY the same time, you would also have better ability to avoid minor slowdowns. But yes, those ware the advantages of the two-port setup.

If you connect to your display with an HDMI or other legacy interface, some Docks will use DisplayLink to fake a display interface anyway, while others will use the display hardware in the computer for a real, accelerated connection.

The Mac is not good at daisy-chaining displays off one USB-C port.

If running multiple displays on one Dock, the second display will be supported in a different way when only one USB-C is used as input.

In the case of only one USB-C, the second display is implemented as a virtual display with DisplayLink software and custom chips that 'fake' a legacy display interface. This provides no graphics acceleration for that display.
