macbook 2014 locked in recovery mode

i recently just bought this 2014 macbook pro from the pawn shop (gold & pawn) and its runs slow and restarts sometimes. ive been trying to factory reset it or clear drives, or reinstall OS but its locked in recovery mode and its not the same password as the log in... my cpu percentage is way up there at about 28-30% i cleared all caches and history ect... and it also says on icloud theres to many accounts... im really confused and need this for my business... and its my last resort. please help & thank you!!

Are you saying you can boot into Recovery Mode? Or are you saying you are presented with lock screen when trying to get into Recovery Mode?


If the laptop has an EFI Firmware password set, then you may be out of luck as you would need to have the original proof of purchase to prove ownership before Apple will unlock the laptop.

If you can boot into Recovery Mode, then try Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) instead so you can use Disk Utility to erase the physical SSD before reinstalling macOS. You may need to click on "View" within Disk Utility and select "Show all devices" before the physical drive will show up in the left pane of Disk Utility.
