iPhone xr wont charge or turn on

Hi all.

My partners iphone xr has been running hot today, about 1 hour ago the battery went flat. The device has cooled down. When charger is plugged in the device gets warm to touch but will not switch on or show any signs of charging.

I have tried the vol up down and hold power but nothing is happening.

Please advise.. . We are really worried as it contains important photos that are not backed up this month.
